Turgay Kurultay

He was born in Gaziantep in 1955. He completed his school education in Gaziantep. He studied geology, foreign language didactics and German studies in Germany and Turkey and wrote his final theses on translation criticism and translation pedagogy.
Since 1979 he has been translating and editing literary and humanities books as well as texts from the fields of economics, law, technology and general education.
Since 1984 he has worked as an academic at the university, mainly in the field of translation. He worked as a university lecturer at various universities in Turkey and Germany. He served as an editorial member and reviewer at various journals in the field of translation and translation studies, including Metis Çeviri.
His research interests include translation studies, the relationship between linguistics and translation studies, translation education, translated literature, children's literature, cultural reception and knowledge transfer.
He was co-founder of the Association for Translation and Interpreting and Interpreters in Disaster Operations and took part in its management. He is a member of the Association of Literary Translators. He is a member of the Validebağ Neighborhood Initiative, carried out work on disaster management in the neighborhood after the 1999 earthquake, was a member of the Steering Committee of the Istanbul Disaster Preparedness Education Project at Boğaziçi University, and is currently a member of the Istanbul City Council Earthquake Disaster Working Group.
