Streams & Modes
MARUF25 welcomes you “on the shore of all possibilities” with four streams that address four fundamental questions regarding the future of cities. Each stream introduces a different concept that fosters in-depth discussion on creating better cities. These questions sometimes fuse and intertwine, yet each offers an authentic question and direction for the participants to follow:
#1 How is it possible to have a fair city with participatory, reliable and accountable institutional structures where local democracy is rooted?
#2 How is it possible to have a city that is resilient to disasters, climate crisis, conflicts and economic crises?
#3 How is it possible to have a caring city for everyone and all living beings, that is safe and eliminates inequalities?
#4 How is it possible to have a city that enables co-living in solidarity and embraces social diversity?
In the multi-session and multi-dimensional universe of MARUF, these streams are presented as simultaneously occurring sessions, meetings, and interactive spaces for creation and experience. Participants can explore their interests within this rich content, find answers to their questions, and create their own unique streams. At MARUF25, you can do more than just listen; you can chart your own path, design your experience and share this journey with other participants.
This multi-layered experience comes to life through three different modes of participation:
- Minds-on: Conceptual explorations, inspiring exchanges of ideas and in-depth discussions. Participants embark on intellectual exploration by reflecting on diverse views and experiences. This mode provides the opportunity to analyze, compare, and develop new ways of thinking.
- Hands-on: Workshops, networking activities and collective processes of production. Participants develop, produce, draw, disrupt and reconstruct ideas. This mode represents the forum’s productive and interactive aspect, fostering dialogue and cooperation.
- Senses-on: An experience enriched by physical and sensory participation. Participants see, hear, feel, and connect with the space. This mode enables the discussion and understanding of urban issues via senses.
Throughout the forum, participants will engage with the content across a variety of themes through these modes, shape their own experiences and share them with others if they wish. As MARUF25 concludes, the participants will compile their thoughts, answers, newly emerging questions, and the outputs of their journeys in their "Deep Dive Diaries," contributing to MARUF's collective memory.
