Play in the City: Designing Natural Play Areas and Playground Safety

Playgrounds are among the very first spaces designed for children in cities. Yet, even playgrounds are often planned without considering the needs of the youngest children. If you looked at the city through the eyes of a three-year-old, from a height of 95 centimeters, what would you change? What would we notice, and how would we design differently, if we viewed playgrounds with the needs of young children and their caregivers in mind, while also taking playground safety standards (TS/EN 1176) into account?
