Film Culture in Türkiye: Past and Present

This panel explores the history of film culture in Türkiye, both recent and distant, through the examples of Adana, Diyarbakır, and Ankara. It will examine how film culture—including cinemas, institutions, and audiences—has evolved in these cities, and how cinema has interacted with their cultural identities through festivals, alternative channels for distribution and exhibition, and institutional support for film production. The discussion will highlight how cities with diverse social and historical contexts have both shaped and been shaped by cinema. By tracing these transformations, the panel aims to share the rich, often underrepresented cinematic experiences of these cities with the audience.
