The Role of Municipalities in National Climate Targets

This session aims to inform municipalities about Türkiye’s new “Nationally Determined Contribution” (NDC), present climate projections for both Türkiye and their own cities to support science-based action planning, and discuss the steps municipalities can take during the NDC implementation process. The session will also address potential opportunities and examples to ensure that the benefits of energy transition remain at the local level, as well as the barriers and needs that hinder municipalities from contributing more effectively to national climate action. Furthermore, it will create a dialogue among central government institutions, municipalities, and civil society for advancing climate action.
