Would You Mind If We Swim? On Rebuilding Istanbul’s Coastal Culture

This event will address the limitations of Istanbul’s relationship with the sea through access issues and prevailing myths. The transformation of waterfronts into passive landscapes and common prejudices about the sea will be shared with participants through data and visuals. The aim is to highlight the importance of reconnecting with the sea and fostering collective ownership. In this interactive session, participants’ experiences will be gathered through questions, new forms of sea–human interaction will be discussed, and fast, low-cost, and inclusive solutions will be generated.
