Dr. Mete Başar BAYPINAR, is an assistant professor at Istanbul University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He has degrees from Istanbul Technical University, where he also worked as a researcher and lecturer. He was a visiting PhD student at University of Thessaly, Greece at 2006. He worked at Spatial Impact of Multimodal Corridor Development in Gateway Areas Project (EU INTERREG IIIB, 2006), Urban Transformation Research Project in Istanbul (2006) and the metropolitan master plans of Istanbul and Bursa (2005-2011). He was an invited post-doctoral researcher at University of Pecs, Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research Center (RIERC) at 2013, and contributed to development of the GMR – Turkey Geographic and Macro Econometric Simulation Model under the EU FP7 SEARCH Project to assess policy impact of EU Neighbourhood Policy. He studied the development of Software industry in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara at 2014. He was a researcher at a TUBITAK Project on Disaster Logistics at 2015-2018. At 2018, he coordinated a large strategic research project on Istanbul’s development as a global financial center in Turkey and abroad, commissioned by the Greater Municipality of Istanbul (GMI). Recently, he has worked with Istanbul University Urban Policy Research Center on Development of Smart City Istanbul Index and On Transformation of the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul with GMI. He has given lectures on transport policy, innovation policy, EU Regional Policy, spatial strategic planning. At 2019, he became a founder of the MSc Program in Metropolitan Government and Planning, at IU, first in Turkey.
