Ahmet Cihat Kahraman

Ahmet Cihat Kahraman has been involved in the activities of the Environmental Management Center within the Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU) since 2010. From 2014 until August 2025, he served as the Environmental Management Coordinator at MMU. 

During this period, he played an active role in developing integrated waste management and climate change action initiatives for local governments, as well as in projects focused on the environmental condition of the Ergene River and the Marmara Sea. He also actively participated in the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS), serving as a member of both the Solid Waste and Wastewater Management Working Group and the Energy Efficiency Working Group for Local Governments.

Since August 2025, Kahraman has been serving as the Head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Control at Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.

He completed his undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at Selçuk University while simultaneously earning a second degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Division of Heat and Energy, at the same university. During his studies, he took part in various research projects on industrial wastewater management and interdisciplinary renewable energy systems. Kahraman completed his master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at Istanbul University, where he carried out modeling studies on the effective collection and recycling of electronic waste. He continued his doctoral research in the same department, earning his PhD in 2022 with his dissertation titled “Determining the Performance of Cities in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals with a Focus on Air Quality and Water/Wastewater Management.”

He continues to conduct academic research on the financing of environmental management, local climate change policies, and the costs of waste management in both central and local governments.
