Ahmet Türer

Ahmet Türer has been a full-time faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) since 2000. 

He received his B.Sc. degree from METU in 1993 and his M.Sc. (1997) and Ph.D. (2000) degrees from the University of Cincinnati. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Department Chair, and he currently directs the Research Center for Special and High-Rise Structures. His academic and professional interests include earthquake engineering, timber and hybrid structures, structural health monitoring, structural relocation systems, bridge engineering, and the preservation of historic buildings.

Türer has led numerous TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) projects on earthquake safety and sustainable construction techniques, and he contributed to the preparation of the 2024 Türkiye Timber Building Code. In recent years, his research has focused on the design of timber and hybrid timber–reinforced concrete systems, CO₂-based sustainable materials, and large-scale structural health monitoring systems.

He has provided consultancy for many projects in Türkiye and abroad, has supervised more than 30 master’s and doctoral theses, and has published over one hundred peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. Türer places great importance on knowledge exchange and collaboration with municipalities, engineers, architects, and international partners to advance the development of earthquake-resistant and environmentally friendly timber structures.
