Akgün İlhan

Akgün İlhan obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, with a particular focus on water policy and management, at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona with a scholarship from the Catalan Government.

After completing her studies and returning to Turkey, she worked for some Civil Society Organisations based in Istanbul between 2012 and 2018. She was a Mercator Stiftung-Istanbul Policy Center post-doctoral researcher in 2019-2020 at the Istanbul Policy Center Sabanci University, focusing on urban water management and climate change. Since 2017, she has been a part-time lecturer at Bogazici University. She was a post-doctoral researcher at the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA) in the British Academy-funded project Water in Istanbul: Rising to the Challenge from 2021 to 2024. 

Akgün İlhan wrote books, book chapters, newspapers, and journal articles about Turkey's water crisis and climate change. She is the producer and host of the programs Su Hakkı, which aired on Açık Radyo between 2012 and 2018, and Sudan Gelen, which aired between 2018 and 2024.
