Aslı Odman

Aslı Odman has been working as a lecturer at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University since 2013 and is among the founding volunteers of the Istanbul Occupational Health and Safety Assembly, which was established in 2011.
She completed her undergraduate and master’s studies in economics and political science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and University of Vienna, and later earned her PhD at Boğaziçi University’s Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History. Her master’s thesis examined the economic nationalist state policies of Mexico and Turkey between the two world wars through a historical sociology lens. In her doctoral dissertation, she explored the global economic geography of the same period, starting with the Ford Motor Company’s assembly plant in Tophane, Istanbul. From 2003 to 2011, she worked as a research assistant at Bilgi University’s History Department.
Her recent work focuses on researching actor-network relationships and processes within collective and participatory contexts, emerging in areas such as environment, urban studies, public health, and occupational health, with an emphasis on various workplaces including factories, shipyards, universities, construction sites, TV series sets, mines, ships, fields, greenhouses, and offices.
