Ayşe Gümeç Karamuk
Jr. Urban Policy Expert, Marmara Municipalities Union
Ayşe Gümeç Karamuk is a researcher and practitioner specializing in urban policies. Since March 2025, she has been working at the Marmara Municipalities Union as an Urban Policies Assistant Specialist, focusing on policy development and knowledge sharing in the field of local governance.
Her academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Urban Planning at Middle East Technical University (METU). She then earned a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Studies at ETH Zurich and another Master’s degree in Urban Studies at University College London (UCL). Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Urban Studies at UCL’s Department of Geography, where her research compares urban transformation processes in Istanbul and London, focusing on urban governance and spatial justice.
Her research experience includes roles at institutions such as UNDP (IICPSD), ETH Zurich, and Istanbul Bilgi University. She has presented papers at various academic events and has co-authored a publication in the field of urbanism. She has also carried out translation work in architecture and urban studies. Supported by prestigious international scholarship programs, including Chevening, IJURR Studentship, and YLSY, Karamuk continues to integrate her academic and professional expertise into urban policies, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to her work.
