Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu

Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu is the Mayor of Bakırköy. She graduated from the Department of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine  (English Department) after completing her secondary education at Özel Üsküdar Science High School. She completed her specialty training at the Neurosurgery Clinic of Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital and was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Neurosurgery in 2020.

Ovalıoğlu has participated in numerous national and international training programs, including those organized by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. She has also conducted academic studies and clinical research at Harvard University, the University of Zurich, and the University of Florida. Her work at Harvard University was recognized with fellowship support from TÜBİTAK and the Turkish Neurosurgical Society. During her residency, she received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Governorship of Istanbul. Her academic portfolio includes 22 original articles, 52 conference papers, and authorship of 7 book chapters.

Having lived in Bakırköy for 36 years, Ovalıoğlu has an in-depth understanding of the district’s dynamics. Known for her environmental advocacy, she actively supports initiatives focused on the preservation of nature and ecological balance and has a personal interest in organic farming and fruit cultivation.
