Bernd Voehringer
President, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe
Bernd Vöhringer holds a PhD in Economics, focusing on the effective use of information and communication technologies in local governance.
He began his political career in 1990 as a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). After serving on the Sindelfingen City Council, he was elected Mayor of Sindelfingen, a position he held from 2001 to 2025. He also served actively on the Böblingen and Stuttgart regional councils. Vöhringer has held leadership roles in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, serving as Vice-President and currently as President of the Chamber of Local Authorities. In these roles, he has promoted stronger local governance, increased democratic participation, and the use of innovative solutions in public administration. He also leads the European People’s Party (EPP) Group.
Active in civil society, he volunteers as an emergency medical technician with the German Red Cross in Sindelfingen and is a member of the Stuttgart-Wildpark Rotary Club. He is the former President of SportRegion Stuttgart and has held positions in various local government organizations.
