Birce Demiryontar

Dr., Scientific Coordinator, Koç University

Birce Demiryontar serves as the Scientific Coordinator and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoc). 

She is also the Local Coordinator for Koç University in the UNIC (European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition). She earned her PhD in Migration Studies from the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex (2017) and holds both her BA (2009) and MA (2012) in International Relations from Koç University (2012). Her research lies at the intersection of political science and sociology. In a political science frame, her work explicates migration governance in the Mediterranean, particularly examining the external dimension of EU migration policies and the migration diplomacy they facilitate. In a sociological frame, she studies diversity and inclusion, especially in higher education settings, with an emphasis on the experiences of ethnic minorities and immigrant groups. She also lectures in the Department of Sociology at Koç University, on migration and globalization and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoc).
