Çağlar Keyder

Çağlar Keyder is a prominent Turkish sociologist specializing in political economy and historical sociology.
He earned his Ph.D. in Economic History at the University of California, Berkeley, and began his career at the Middle East Technical University. He later served at Boğaziçi University’s Sociology Department until his retirement in 2014, while also holding positions at SUNY-Binghamton and Koç University.
His main research interests include agrarian transformation, urban studies, Ottoman-Turkish modernization, and the sociology of law. He has authored influential works such as State and Class in Türkiye, The Collapse of National Developmentalism, Istanbul: Between the Global and the Local, and The End of Agriculture as We Know It. A founding editor of New Perspectives on Turkey, he has served on editorial boards of leading international journals. He is a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences and recipient of the 1998 Mustafa Parlar Science Award.
