Dalkhat Ediev
Prof., North-Caucasian State Academy
Dalkhat M. Ediev is a distinguished demographer and applied mathematician specializing in mathematical demography, population ageing, and demographic modeling. He holds advanced degrees from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, including a Ph.D. in mathematical modeling (1999) and a Doktor Nauk in physical-mathematical sciences (2008). His academic path also includes further training in life insurance and machine learning.
Currently, Ediev serves as Professor at both the North-Caucasian State Academy and Lomonosov Moscow State University, while also maintaining a long-term research association with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. Previously, he was a Senior Scientist at the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy. Sc., where he underwent the habilitation procedure in 2012, and contributed as a lecturer at the European Doctoral School of Demography.
His research spans applied demographic methods, mathematical modeling, and policy-relevant studies on population change, ageing, and mortality. He has led and contributed to numerous international projects, including EU TACIS and ERC-funded initiatives, and has provided expertise to the WHO and international funding agencies.
Widely published, his works include monographs, textbooks, and over a hundred journal articles addressing demographic potential, mortality projections, pension reform, and statistical methodologies. He also served on editorial and review boards for leading demographic journals. Through his academic, editorial, and advisory roles, Ediev has made substantial contributions to advancing demographic science and its applications in policy and research.
