Evrim Kaya studied philosophy at Boğaziçi University.
After completing her master's degree there, she worked as a journalist, translator, festival programmer, and film critic. She completed her doctoral thesis on representations of intellectuals in Turkish cinema at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Hamburg and is currently awaiting her defense.
