İlhan Tekeli
City and Regional Planning Professor & Social Scientist
İlhan Tekeli graduated from Istanbul Technical University’s Department of Civil Engineering and went on to complete his master’s and doctoral studies in urban and regional planning at METU, the University of Pennsylvania, and ITU.
He taught at METU from 1970 until his retirement in 2004. He currently teaches at METU. Tekeli was among the founding members of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Academy of Sciences.He is the founder and first president of the History Foundation. In addition to serving as a member of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) General Assembly (2004–2008), he has also served as a consultant to numerous local governments and institutions. He has received numerous awards, including the Sedat Simavi Social Sciences Award, the Parlar Science and Education Awards, the TÜBİTAK Service Award, the Sakıp Sabancı Social Sciences Award, and the Koç International Culture Award. He has authored 115 books and over 740 scientific publications in areas such as urban planning, social systems, local governments, economic history, municipal administration, and the philosophy of science.
