İlhan Tekeli
City and Regional Planning Professor & Social Scientist
İlhan Tekeli graduated from Istanbul Technical University’s Department of Civil Engineering and went on to complete his master’s and doctoral studies in urban and regional planning at METU, the University of Pennsylvania, and ITU.
From 1970 until his retirement, he taught at METU, and was among the founding members of both the Turkish Academy of Sciences and the Science Academy. He is the founder and first president of the History Foundation. In addition to serving on the Council of Higher Education (2004–2008), he acted as a consultant to numerous local administrations and institutions. He has received many awards, including the Sedat Simavi Award in Social Sciences, the Parlar Foundation Awards in Science and Education, TÜBİTAK’s Service Award, and the Sakıp Sabancı Award in Social Sciences. Tekeli has authored more than 110 books and over 660 scholarly publications in fields such as urban planning, social systems, local governments, economic history, and philosophy of science.
