Lasse Kurvinen

Lasse Kurvinen, Senior Specialist at Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland, has extensive expertise in marine nature conservation, particularly in relation to Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). He has been involved in national-level responsibilities from early on, including protected area planning, status assessments, and marine data management.

Currently, Kurvinen's work focuses primarily on international cooperation in marine conservation. His key responsibilities include contributing to the marine aspects of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), participating in EU-level marine expert groups, and chairing the HELCOM Working Group on Biodiversity, Protection and Restoration.

Kurvinen’s career has provided him with a valuable combination of hands-on conservation experience and higher-level international work. This blend enables him to see the bigger picture and identify connections across diverse issues in marine conservation.
