M. Murat Erdoğan

M. Murat Erdoğan, a political scientist and migration researcher, is a member of the International Metropolis Advisory Board, a member of the UNESCO-Türkiye Communications Committee, President of the IGAM-ACADEMY affiliated with the Center for Asylum and Migration Research, and Director of the Turkish Diaspora Research Center at the Migration Research Foundation (GAV).
He worked at Hacettepe University between 1987 and 2017. He founded the Hacettepe University Center for Migration and Politics Research (HUGO) in 2009 and served as its director until 2017. From 2017 to 2022, he served at the Turkish-German University, where he served as Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the Center for Migration and Integration Research (TAGU), which he founded. Between March 2022 and October 2024, he served as the founding director of the Mülkiye Migration Research Center at the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University. Erdoğan, whose academic interests include voluntary and forced migration, refugees, people of Turkish origin abroad, the EU, political cartoons, political behavior, and German and Turkish foreign policy, also conducts comprehensive and regular public opinion research titled "Euro-Turks-Barometer" on the Turkish diaspora in Europe and "Syrians Barometer" on Syrians in Türkiye.
He has been a visiting researcher at Duisburg-Essen University (2007), Berlin-Humboldt University (2010), Oxford University (2012) and Johns Hopkins University Centre for German Studies AICGS (2014), Berlin-Humboldt University (2019) and as a fellow of SWP (German Science and Politics Foundation) CATS (Centre for Turkish Studies) in Berlin (2022-2023).
