Melis Oğuz Çevik

Melis Oğuz Çevik completed her undergraduate studies in City and Regional Planning (2005) and Sociology (Double Major, 2006) at Middle East Technical University (METU).
She received her master’s degree in Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). As part of a Joint PhD Protocol between Berlin Technical University and Istanbul Technical University, she completed her doctoral dissertation in 2016, focusing on migrant women’s use of public spaces and urban mobility. She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2021. Following her PhD, she worked as a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Design (English) at Beykent University, Istanbul, where she also served as the head of the department for three years. She is currently a faculty member at the Department of City and Regional Planning at Gebze Technical University.
In addition to her academic career, for six years she coordinated and hosted Mekân ve İnsan (Space and People), a weekly discussion program on urban research broadcast on Medyascope. She also completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences at Istanbul University Open and Distance Education Faculty in 2024. Her research focuses on urban sociology, urban mobility, gender, urban transformation, digital technologies, disaster studies, migration, and social sustainability. Through fieldwork, projects, and workshops, she aims to build a bridge between academia and social practices.
