Mina Hasman
Dr., Sustainability Director, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
Mina Hasman is a globally recognised sustainability expert and climate advocate, dedicated to transforming the built environment. As the Sustainability Director at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), she leads innovative projects worldwide. Under her leadership, SOM became the largest design-engineering firm to be validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and achieved carbon neutrality in 2022.
She played a key role in developing the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and pioneered SOM’s Whole Life Carbon Accounting methodology. She authored the RIBA Climate Guide—the first book aligning the UN SDGs with the built environment—and leads Climate Framework, uniting academia and industry in building a sustainable, equitable and climate-resilient future.
She serves as the UNEP/GlobalABC Focal Point for the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) and chairs the UK Construction Industry Council’s Climate Change Committee. She is also Regional Vice President for Europe at the CAA and contributes to multiple international committees including the RIBA Council, the Architects’ Council of Europe and WorldGBC.
She lectures at UCL (The Bartlett) and Manchester School of Architecture and is a frequent international keynote speaker. Recognised by TIME magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential climate leaders, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by University of Built Environment under King Charles III’s patronage.
