Müsemma Sabancıoğlu

Müsemma Sabancıoğlu graduated from the Department of History at Hacettepe University in 1997.
She worked at the History Foundation, Toplumsal Tarih magazine, and Istanbul Bilgi University Publications as an archival researcher, project coordinator, assistant editor, editor, and publications coordinator. Between 2000 and 2004, she conducted research on the Pervititch maps and published works on the subject. She served as an editor for the second edition of the Eczacıbaşı Art Encyclopedia. From 2008 to 2014, she pursued her doctoral studies at Georgia State University, where she earned a master’s degree in history before leaving the program. During this period, she worked as a research assistant and provided academic writing guidance to undergraduate students. She has written critical and analytical articles in various publications, focusing mainly on the representation of women in the media since 2012. In 2020, she founded the platform Şenlik and assumed its editorial directorship.
Her articles have been published in Toplumsal Tarih, Tarih ve Toplum, İstanbul, Cumhuriyet, Yapı, Birikim, #tarih, Socrates, 5Harfliler, and İST Dergi. Currently serving as the social sciences editor of Sarkaç, the popular science publication of the Science Academy, Sabancıoğlu prepared the book Sahada: Cumhuriyetin Harcında Bilim ve Kadınlar (In the Field: Science and Women in the Making of the Republic) for publication in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
