Nurgül Yardım Meriçliler

Dr., Researcher & Architectural Designer, Oxford Brookes University

Nurgül Yardım Meriçliler is a London-based architectural designer, researcher, and independent curator.

She is a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Associate Lecturer at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University, where she works on projects exploring the impact of e-bikes and e-scooters, envisioning neighbourhoods and co-creating thriving communities in the fifteen-minute city, and understanding mobility and activity in low traffic neighbourhoods. She studied Architecture at Middle East Technical University, followed by an MSc in Interdisciplinary Urban Design at Istanbul Technical University, and later completed a PhD in Communications at Istanbul Bilgi University. Her doctoral thesis, An Interdisciplinary Perspective Towards Makerspaces: 5 Cases from London, examined makerspaces as dynamic social phenomena, focusing on makers, their communities, physical spaces, and neighbourhoods.

Before relocating to the UK, Nurgul spent nearly eight years in Istanbul, working as an architectural designer and communications lead at leading international architecture firms. Beyond academia, she founded Anylab, a consultancy that develops creative direction and communication strategies for global organisations and practices in the built environment. Since 2019, she has been the host and producer of Anylabtalks, a podcast featuring in-depth conversations with architects, designers, and creatives about their visions of optimism for the future. The podcast has collaborated with Ecocity World Summit, Wired Impact, and Dezeen for special episodes. Nurgul is also co-editor of the Architecture Diary platform managed by New London Architecture and publishes Sense of Place, a newsletter on design and the built environment. She is frequently invited as a guest critic, panelist, and moderator internationally.
