Pınar Okyay
Prof. Deputy Secretary General, İzmir Metropolitian Municipality
Pınar Okyay is the Deputy Secretary General of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. After serving as Head of the Public Health Department at Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine, she retired following the 2024 local elections and has since led multidisciplinary studies on Urban Welfare and the One Health approach.
She graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine (1989) and completed her Public Health specialization at Dokuz Eylül University (1993). Her academic focus includes epidemiology, health research methods, ethics, biostatistics, women’s health, and public health in disasters.
Okyay has held key administrative and professional roles: Deputy Director of University Hospital, President of the Self-Assessment Board, member (2016–18) and later Chair (2018–21) of the Association of Public Health Specialists (HASUDER). She has served on the Ministry of Health’s Medical Specialization Board (TUKMOS), the Public Health Accreditation Board, and was a member of the COVID-19 Scientific Advisory Board (2020–21).
Actively engaged in professional associations, she has contributed to the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), served on the Aydın Medical Chamber board, and is currently a member of the İzmir Medical Chamber.
Beyond her professional commitments, she is a bibliophile, traveler, and weekly columnist for T24.
