Sermin Onaygil

Sermin Onaygil received her master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in February 1983 and her doctorate in December 1990. Her research interests include energy planning and management, energy efficiency, intelligent building systems, energy economics, general lighting techniques and road and tunnel lighting, lighting automation, and energy efficiency in lighting.
She is a founding member of the Turkish National Committee on Lighting and currently vice chair of the board. She was elected to the Governing Board of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) for the 2023-2027 term and began her duties in September 2023. She has also represented Turkey in Division 4 of the CIE, titled "Transportation and Outdoor Lighting Applications," since 1996, and continues to serve as vice chair in this division.
She serves as a professor in the Department of Energy Planning and Management at Istanbul Technical University's Energy Institute. She actively participates in energy efficiency projects undertaken by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. She has contributed to TEDAŞ (Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation) on projects to improve road lighting installations in Türkiye.
She serves as a consultant to Electricity Distribution Companies on Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA)-supported projects. In recent years, she has conducted research on Energy Efficiency Obligation Systems, Energy Performance Contracts, and Energy Poverty. She serves as a board member of the Energy Efficiency Association (ENVER).
