Şevket Ercan Kızılay

Şevket Ercan Kızılay is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Düzce University. He completed his undergraduate studies in Sociology at Selçuk University in 2005, his master’s degree at Afyon Kocatepe University in 2008, and his PhD at Ankara University in 2016 with his dissertation titled “Transformation of Space and Strategies of Struggle: The Case of Derbent Neighborhood.”
His academic work primarily focuses on urban transformation, disaster sociology, and spatial sociology. In recent years, he has concentrated particularly on disaster-oriented urban transformation processes, conducting field research on Istanbul’s earthquake preparedness and its efforts to become a disaster-resilient city. He pursues his research through a field-based, applied, and data-driven academic approach.
