Tansel Korkmaz

Tansel Korkmaz Bilgin graduated from the Department of Architecture at METU Faculty of Architecture in 1986. 

She completed her master’s and doctoral degrees at the same institution and worked there first as a research assistant and later as a lecturer in 2000. She was part of the founding team of the Tepe Architecture Culture Center, established under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Haluk Pamir, and its component, XXI Architecture, Design, and Art Magazine. She taught at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Communication until 2004 and led design studios at Yıldız Technical University. Under the leadership of İhsan Bilgin, she joined the founding team of the Bilgi University Graduate Program in Architecture, established in 2005, and the Faculty of Architecture, founded in 2009. In 2021, she was appointed founding acting dean of the Faculty of Art and Design at Istanbul Kent University, and in 2024, she joined the Department of Architecture at Beykoz University.

Her courses, seminars, and writings have primarily focused on Modern and Postmodern architectural history, theory, and criticism, as well as Contemporary Turkish Architecture. In 2007, supported by a scholarship from the Aga Khan Program, she went to the Harvard GSD Department of Landscape Architecture as a visiting researcher. Influenced by C. Steinitz’s landscape planning studio and seminars by R.T.T. Forman and others, she expanded her research interests to include urban design and urban–rural ecosystems. Together with Cem Çelik and Samet Mor, she has led graduate and undergraduate studios on these topics.
