Tanyeli Behiç Sabuncu

Tanyeli Behiç Sabuncu has been managing the Climate and Energy Program at WWF-Turkey since 2021.
His work focuses on strengthening cities' climate action and integrating the just energy transition into Türkiye's climate policies. He coordinates WWF's global initiative, the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC), in Türkiye, supporting municipalities in developing greenhouse gas reduction targets, strengthening climate adaptation strategies, and aligning their sustainability plans with international standards.
Sabuncu advocates for cities to take a leading role in the energy transition and works to integrate the just energy transition into key climate policies, such as Türkiye's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). He is also one of the founders of the Climate Network, which brings together more than 15 civil society organizations in Türkiye. Through this network, he contributes to advocacy efforts to develop climate policies compatible with the 1.5-degree Climate Change threshold. He also led the establishment of the Türkiye Platform for Climate Action and Beyond (TRACTION), which brings together 10 civil society organizations and 20 business organizations to work towards Türkiye's alignment with the European Green Deal, accelerating climate action, and promoting science-based targets.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a sustainability audit and consultant at KPMG and worked on the private sector's transition to a low-carbon economy at TÜSİAD and CDP-Türkiye.
