Turan Konak
Director General of Local Administrations, Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change
Turan Konak graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Public Administration in 1994 with a first degree. Afterwards, he completed his master's degree in Public Administration at the same university and prepared a thesis on “Audit and Ombudsman in Local Governments”. Then, he completed his MBA program at Beykent University, Department of Business Administration.
He began his career in 1995 at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Directorate of Council. He worked first as an assistant manager and then as a manager in the same department. Later, he served as the Head of the Department of Editorial and Decisions. In addition to his membership on the Municipal Council, he served as an inspector, a board member and chairman of several Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality subsidiaries. He also served as a member of the Istanbul Provincial Human Rights Board. During this time, Konak gained experience in municipal assembly and council, tender legislation, zoning plans and zoning practices, electronic correspondence and digital archives, and auditing in local governments. He also attended and presented numerous seminars on these topics.
Between 2016 and 2018, he first served as the Head of Departments, then as the Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs in the Prime Ministry. In 2018, he was appointed as the Director General of Local Administrations and is still carrying out this duty.
