Orhan Tatar
Prof., General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD)
Dr. Orhan TATAR was born in Sivas in 1965. After completing his undergraduate education at Çukurova University, he started working as a Research Assistant at Cumhuriyet University Department of Geological Engineering in 1986. He completed his doctorate studies at Keele University, and his postdoctoral studies at the University of Liverpool. He became Professor in 2001. In addition to carrying out various national and international projects throughout his academic career, he has also written various national and international articles and books. He served as Vice Rector, Dean, Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports, and Founding Department Head of Occupational Health and Safety at universities. He was appointed as AFAD General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction in January 2023. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of the TÜBİTAK Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences.
