Önder Uçar
Dr., Research and Advocacy Coordinator, Deep Poverty Network
Önder Uçar serves as the Research and Advocacy Coordinator at the Deep Poverty Network (Derin Yoksulluk Ağı) in Istanbul. His work focuses on urban poverty, social exclusion, and rights-based campaigning.
He has led campaigns on school meal access, clothing deprivation, and invisible forms of urban labor. Combining field research with participatory storytelling, he develops strategic communication methods that bring local data into the public sphere. His advocacy efforts extend beyond Türkiye, including contributions to the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and the European Committee of Social Rights.
Uçar is committed to making the structural dimensions of urban poverty visible and fostering democratic debate around them. His work particularly explores how cities reproduce inequalities or, alternatively, generate resilience against them.
