Övgü Gökçe
Film Critic &Cultural Manager, Altyazı Cinema Association
Övgü Gökçe graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Boğaziçi University. She completed her master’s thesis on narration in post-revolutionary Iranian cinema while working as a teaching assistant at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of Cinema-TV.
She later pursued doctoral studies in cinema and aesthetics at Ohio University, School of Interdisciplinary Arts. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on film history, visual culture, Turkish cinema, and international cinemas at institutions including Boğaziçi, Sabancı, and Kadir Has Universities. Since 2001, Gökçe has been a member of the Altyazı Cinema Magazine editorial team, contributing as a writer, editor, and board member, and has taken part in numerous conferences, educational programs, and film festival juries as a member of SİYAD and FIPRESCI. She served on the executive board of Altyazı Cinema Association between 2022 and 2025.
From 2011 to 2023, she served as program coordinator and director at the Diyarbakır Arts Center, where she developed interdisciplinary art programs and facilitated cultural collaborations. She designed and implemented projects in photography, video, and comparative literature, working with participants from across Türkiye and fostering partnerships among artists, public institutions, cultural initiatives, and civil society. She has taken part as a consultant and jury member in various international projects. Gökçe continues to support Anadolu Kültür’s cinema-related initiatives as a consultant and serves on the advisory board of Altyazı Fasikül: Free Cinema. Her areas of interest include international cinemas, melodrama, film history and aesthetics, documentary, experimental cinema, and video essays.
