Şengül Akçar
General Director, Foundation for the Support of Women's Work
Şengül Akçar completed her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at Boğaziçi University. She completed her master's degree in Public Policy at the same university.
After working for four years on a housing project for low-income groups, she founded the Foundation for the Support of Women's Labor in 1986, which aims to support vulnerable women. Since then, she has led the foundation's efforts to expand health programs alongside women.
She has been awarded the Ashoka Prize for social entrepreneurship and serves on the Executive Board of the global Huairou Commission, established to register for the Habitat II Conference. She also serves on various international organizations and boards of directors.
