Zafer Yenal

Zafer Yenal has served as a professor of sociology at Boğaziçi University since 2000, before joining Sabancı University in September 2024.
He holds a BSc in economics from Middle East Technical University (1989) and earned his PhD in sociology from Binghamton University, NY (2000). His research spans sustainability studies, sociology of consumption, sociology of food, rural sociology, political economy, human geography, and historical sociology. Yenal has authored and produced numerous articles, books, exhibitions, as well as radio and TV programs, and podcasts.
For the past three years, he has written Zappa Zamanlar, a widely-read social science bulletin. He is currently the coordinator for sustainability and food security studies in Sabancı University’s Istanbul Policy Center.
