Ahmet Mete Saatçi
Prof., Retired President, Turkish Water Institute
Prof. Ahmet Mete Saatçi received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1972. He obtained his MSc in the same field in 1973. Between 1973 and 1976, he worked as an assistant in the Department of Environmental Engineering at İstanbul Technical University. He studied in Civil Engineering Department at Iowa State University from 1976 to 1979 and worked as teaching assistant. He obtained his doctorate degree in 1979. He became associate professor in 1985 and professor in 1991. He worked at King Abdul Aziz University between the years1980 and 1990. He established the Environmental Engineering Department at Marmara University and served as the Head of the Environmental Engineering Department from 1990 to 2011. He is the author of numerous papers, critiques and conference proceedings published in international journals.
Prof. Saatçi was a member of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey Scientific Committee between 2005 and 2011. He served as Vice Secretary General of the 5th World Water Forum. He served as the President of the Europe-INBO for the 2012-2013 period. He is a member of the Bureau of the World Water Council and was in the Governing Board of UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. He is an observer in the European Environmental Agency Scientific Committee. He also served as the Vice Chairman of Ilısu Dam Project Scientific Committee. Prof. Saatçi has currently retired from the Presidency of Turkish Water Institute (SUEN).
