Ahmet Sarıkurt
Mayor, Çorlu Municipality
Ahmet Sarıkurt, the son of a family that emigrated from the Yablanovo village of Bulgaria in 1950, was born in 1979 in Karadeniz Ereğli, where his father went for his compulsory service. After getting into Istanbul Technical University Department of Civil Engineering in 1997 and graduating 2001, he moved to Sağlık Neighborhood, which was in Çorlu at the time and home to many of his close relatives, and started his career in Çorlu. After working as a control engineer in a private company from 2001 to 2006, he worked as the manager of a business partnership from 2006 to 2009. Ahmet Sarıkur got into the Çorlu Municipal Council as the candidate of the Republican People's Party in the 2009 Local Elections and served as Deputy Mayor from 2009 to 2014. He was reappointed to this position after the Local Elections held on March 30, 2014. He was elected Mayor in the council vote held on May 3, 2018, and started his duty as Mayor of Çorlu. Mayor Sarıkurt, who was nominated in the Local Elections held on March 31, 2019, won the elections and became the Mayor of Çorlu. He continues to serve as Mayor. While serving as Mayor, he received his master's degree on “Political Science and Economics” from Rumeli University. Ahmet Sarıkurt, who was previously involved in the management of the Chamber of Civil Engineers, is also a member of various NGOs, including the Atatürkist Thought Association and Association of Hunters.
