Sustainable urban mobility planning has been at the core of his professional interest for the more than 25 years long career. His special interest lies in the transfer of practice and knowledge on sustainable urban transport from more experienced to less experienced countries, mainly to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Preparation, coordination an evaluation of sustainable transport project on national, regional and EU level has always been an important part of his work.
He holds a PhD in Geography with a thesis on the relationship between urban form and transport. He has 27 years of experience in mobility research and projects, of which most has been gained in an international (mainly EU) context. Sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP) have been a key field of his activity since 2004 when he was the Slovenian representative on the EC Expert Working Group on SUTP. He coordinated the very first SUMP in Slovenia for Ljubljana and more than 10 others in Slovenia and region. He delivered numerous trainings on SUMP for consultants and municipalities in Slovenia and CEE. He coordinated establishment of National SUMP support programme for Slovenia and led a WP in a project CIVITAS Prosperity which was responsible for development National SUMP Support programmes in 13 partner countries.
