B. Burçak Başbuğ

B. Burçak Başbuğ is a Professor of Statistics and Disaster Science at the Middle East Technical University (METU). She served as the Course Director of MSc Disaster Management and Resilience at Coventry University in the United Kingdom from August 2019 to August 2020. Başbuğ also held the position of Director at the METU Disaster Management Centre from 2008 to 2018. With 24 years of experience, she specializes in disaster risk reduction, disaster risk management, policy development, resilience, disaster risk finance, and disaster risk management education. Başbuğ have been actively involved in disaster response efforts, including the Syrian Refugee Camps in 2015, the 2011 Van Earthquakes, the May 2014 Soma Mine Fire, the 2020 Giresun Flood, the 2020 Izmir Earthquake, and the 2023 Kahramanmaras Earthquake.
