Claudia López Hernández
Mayor of Bogotá
Mayor Claudia López started her mandate on January 1st, 2020, for a period of four years. With her election as Mayor, she became the first woman to win this position in the history of the Colombian capital. Her government has focused on equal opportunities for social inclusion; adaptation and mitigation of the climate crisis; and an anti-corruption agenda.
López was Senator of the Republic of Colombia between 2014 and 2018 and vice-presidential candidate in the 2018 presidential elections for the Alianza Verde party. Public opinion recognizes her tenacity and enormous capacity for collective action, which was reflected in the fight against corruption and leading a citizen consultation with historic results. Before starting her political career, López was a researcher and academic.
She studied Finance, Government and International Relations at the Universidad Externado de Colombia and holds a Master's degree in Public Administration and Urban Policy from Columbia Universit, and a PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University in the United States.
