Melek İşinibilir Okyar
Prof., Dean of Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, Istanbul University
Prof. Dr. Melek İşinibilir Okyar, born in İzmit in 1973, graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Fisheries in 1994 and completed her Ph.D. in Marine Biology at Istanbul University Institute of Science in 2004. Between 1998 and 2011, she worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Marine Biology at the Faculty of Fisheries. She conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Salento (Italy) between 2005 and 2006. In 2011, she became an Associate Professor, and in 2016, she obtained the title of Professor. She has held various administrative positions at Istanbul University and was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Aquatic Sciences at Istanbul University in 2020.
She has been involved in numerous national and international projects, particularly conducting research on topics such as the biodiversity of the Marmara Sea, the effects of invasive species, and ecosystem management. Due to the mucilage event in the Marmara Sea, she served on the "Marmara Sea Action Plan Coordination Committee" and was also selected as a member of the "Marmara Sea Action Plan Science and Technical Board." Currently, Prof. Dr. İşinibilir Okyar continues her role as the Dean of the Faculty of Aquatic Sciences at Istanbul University. She is married and has one child.
