Octavio Vergara Andueza
Octavio is a Lawyer from Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a master’s in Public Administration & Management from University College London (UCL). He also has studies in strategic leadership, impact evaluation methods, prevention of elder abuse and social gerontology.
Octavio has extensive experience in the field of elderly, being the former National Director of the National Agency for Older Persons in Chile (2018 to 2022), and CEO of Oportunidad Mayor Foundation (2014 to 2018). Through these spaces, he designed and led the implementation of the ‘Chilean Public Policy for the Elderly’ for that period, which considered, among others, important advances in legislations regarding this age group, the design and implementation of the first national transportation subsidy for senior citizens, the development the WHO age friendly cities initiative in Chile, and the coordination of the Integrated Elderly Care Strategy for elderly.
Also, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Octavio oversaw the Chilean Government response for this age group, being therefore responsible for the national emergency plan that was activated to help senior residences that were affected by the pandemic.
Currently, Octavio is a partner at Comov (www.comov.cl), a Chilean consulting firm that works with major companies and international organizations in the articulation and evaluation of sustainable initiatives focused on social impact.
